00:00 Thank you so much for doing that. You are very obedient church as I can see. Usually when I go uh somewhere else to
00:07 preach especially my own church when I preach every week I ask them to do that nothing happens. Uh
00:14 let's turn to God in prayer always.
00:22 You command us as your people, heavenly father, to rejoice always, to pray
00:28 continually to give thanks in all circumstances, for this is your will in
00:34 Christ Jesus. We confess that once we neither thank you nor glorified you but through the
00:40 finished work of Jesus our savior and our lord. You have transform us from a thankless people to a thankful people
00:48 acknowledging you in reverence in all our ways today as we gather here in the
00:54 freedom that we have in in Malaysia. May we never take that for granted, but continue to pray that you preserve our
01:00 common space and our special space to worship you and to declare that you are the true and living God. As we learn
01:08 your word, remind us it's not simply for us. It is indeed for our salvation, for
01:13 our growth, for our sanctification, for our maturity, but is also for our family and friends, for our neighbor and our
01:20 nations. And so we pray that strengthened by your word, enlightened by your word, and strengthened by your
01:25 spirit, we will go forth to fulfill your mission that Jesus indeed will be exalted among the nations and you will
01:32 be glorified. Speak, O Lord, that we might be saved in Jesus name we ask and
01:37 pray. Amen. Okay, you're on to outline number two. Talk number two. And talk number two has
01:45 two parts to it. We're going to try to attempt uh chapter six and chapter seven. We'll see how we go. Um we'll
01:51 split the talk into two parts. Part one on chapter 6 and part two on chapter 7.
01:57 Are you ready? Okay. So most of the major points will come up here. You either take notes or
02:02 you bring your camera up and you just take a picture. If you're using a phone, make sure you are taking notes. You're
02:08 not surfing the net and uh doing things. I trust that you are okay in that way. 1
02:14 Corinthians chapter 6. 1 Corinthians chapter 6. Let's pick it up from verse 9 to the end of the
02:20 chapter. 1 Corinthians 6 verse 9 to the end of the chapter.
02:28 You there with me? Yeah. Make sure you have a Bible to look on. And that usually means um make sure you have a
02:34 phone to look on. Most of us our Bibles are on phones. Do you not know that the wicked will not
02:39 inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolattors, nor adulteress, nor male
02:48 prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor slanders, nor strlers
02:54 will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you
02:59 were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified. How? In the name of the
03:04 Lord Jesus Christ and by the spirit of our God. Vers 12.
03:11 Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. Everything
03:16 is permissible for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. Food for the stomach, stomach for food, but God will
03:23 destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord,
03:28 and the Lord for the body. By his power, God raised the Lord from the dead, and
03:34 he will raise us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members
03:41 of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never. Do you not know that
03:47 he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it said
03:52 that two will become one flesh. But he who unites himself with the Lord is one
03:58 with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other
04:03 sins a man commits are outside his body. But he who sins sexually sins against his body. Do you not know that the body
04:09 is a temple, a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you whom you have received from God. You are not your own. You were
04:17 bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.
04:24 Story is told of a husband and wife who were having a quarrel and you say, "What's new?" And this was their aim
04:30 quarrel. And uh this particular quarrel spun out of control and in his anger he
04:36 the the husband burst out and say I don't know how God could have created someone so beautiful and yet so stupid
04:42 at the same time. The wife listened tried to be submissive didn't respond to him. And then she said
04:50 reflectively quietly I guess you're right. You're always right. God made me beautiful so
04:57 that you will marry me. And God made me stupid so I will marry you.
05:06 Hey. Amen. Hooray. All the women. Yeah. I'm now your favorite this morning. Uh I
05:12 have one for the men tonight. Uh I guess you could say that that that
05:18 relationship got transformed uh for the first time in his life. He realized that his wife is not as the
05:24 wife was quite clever. We are on about sinful relationships
05:30 being transformed to God glorifying relationships. And how does that transaction happen? As
05:37 we saw last night, it happens through the cross. It happens through the person and work of Jesus. It happens to the
05:44 finished work of Jesus on the cross for us. And so today, we're going to revise
05:51 and then plunge in. First slide. Next one. Praise God. He has planted a
05:58 church in Kinta Valley in Epo. He has planted a church in Paneang. He's planted a church in Malaya. He's planted
06:03 a church in KL. Praise God. Amen. And he's planting churches in India. Planting church in China. Planting
06:08 churches in countries that we never thought he would plant churches. Fastest growing church in the world, Iraq.
06:14 Problem is, how do you detox Corinth or the world's values out of the church?
06:24 And we saw last night that the Corinthian church and the Corinthian culture, the two biggies of Corinthian,
06:31 the two biggies of Malaysian culture are food, food and food.
06:37 The two biggies of Corinthian culture was wisdom and power. So
06:43 it's like brothers and sisters in Christ, I could not address you as as people who live by
06:50 the spirit, but as people who are still worldly, mere infants in Christ. This chapter three, I gave you milk, not
06:57 solid food, for you are not ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. Second time, he lays it on them. You are
07:04 still worldly. Church, FBC, you're still worldly. For since there is jealousy and
07:09 quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Third time, are you not acting like mere in uh humans? For when one
07:16 says, "I follow Paul," another says, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere human beings? So, you're more a child of the
07:22 world and child of your culture, then you're a child of God in Christ and through Christ, a child of your heavenly
07:28 father. So, the transaction is still work in progress. WIP next slide.
07:37 So the main problem they suffered in Corinth was perhaps spiritual immaturity.
07:42 And what on earth is spiritual immaturity? They were spiritually stunted in their Christian growth in
07:48 their walk with God by deeply held right deeply seated tightly held Corinthian or
07:56 cultural values that was messing up their minds, messing up their hearts and messing up their relationships. And far
08:02 from conducting their relationships in a way that pleased God and glorify God, their relationships, beginning with
08:08 relationships with leaders, was a million miles from glorifying God. And
08:13 today, as we plunge into chapter 5, 6, and 7, we'll find that not just in their relationships with leaders, but their
08:20 relationships in regards to singleness, to marriage, to widowhood. In other words, in every status and season of
08:26 life was messed up by Corinthian culture. Next thing, spiritual
08:31 immaturity. Another definition of it. They did not allow the permanent effects
08:36 of God and the gospel, the good news of Jesus to take hold of their lives.
08:45 They did not allow for the mind and the virtues of Jesus to control their minds
08:50 and their hearts in their way. They in that way they were still humans, right?
08:55 in in their thinking very Corinthian very fallen did not allow the permanent
09:01 effects of the gospel to control their lives. Next one. So we saw the two big
09:06 things wisdom and power. You're wise in your own eyes strong in your own strength. Anybody here that way? Hands
09:13 down. All of us. From the moment you wake to the moment you sleep in every moment in between. We are so tempted by
09:19 Satan working on our sin to be wise in our own eyes to be strong in our own strength until God pulls the carpet from
09:25 under you. Then you realize, hey, I'm not as wise as I think it think myself to be. I'm not as self-sufficient as I
09:32 think myself to be. So never get used to self- wisdom and never get used to
09:38 self-sufficiency and never get used to self-pleasing and never get used to self glory. That is totally carnal. That is
09:47 worldly, that is fleshly, that is Corinthian, that is Malaysian, that is
09:52 Singaporean, has nothing to do with God and Jesus who came on the cross for us.
09:59 So with that, we plunge in. They did not allow for the permanent
10:04 effects of God and Jesus and the gospel to control their minds, change their hearts, and be the people of God. And
10:12 this carried over into their sexual lives, the way they conducted themselves. And as you read there, this
10:19 is what some of you were. So in the Christian life, the Christian life, salvation is in two tenses. This
10:26 is what some of you were. This is what some of you have to be now. And this is
10:31 what And so anybody messing up their tenses?
10:36 And I don't mean English tenses. I mean your spiritual tenses because Paul's
10:42 warning in the first few verses from verse 9 to verse 11 is that the continuation and the perpetuation of sin
10:49 in your life will be confirmation that you are not a child of God. Let me say
10:54 that in slow motion because it's early in the morning. The continuation and perpetuation of sin
11:00 of any shape and form. from sexual sin to anger sins to gossip sins of any
11:07 shape and form, you will not inherit the kingdom of God. You know the plain language of the opposite of that. You not inheriting kingdom of God. You are
11:13 headed towards hell. You pre you you presume you're child of God. You presume
11:19 you're a child of God because simply you're a churchgoer. But a churchgoer is totally different from a Christ follower.
11:26 Can you resonate with that? that a churchgoer is different from a
11:32 Christ follower. You can be a churchgoer and not be a Christ follower. Is that true? But you'll be a Christ follower,
11:39 you'll be a churchgoer. Please get the sequence correct. Very important we get this right. So this was a problem among
11:46 among the Christians in city of Corin. I told you last night that Corin was famous as a trading city. Corin was also
11:52 famous as a religious city. At least 12 temples. How many temples in KL? I do not know. I grew up um and the number
11:59 one temple I worshiped in was Malika. Oldest living temple in Malaysia set up by the first Chinese who came 400 years
12:05 ago. I worshiped there. I do not know how 35 to 40 idols. My fa my favorite idol was Confucious, right? And
12:12 especially like him during exam time. Um as I prayed to him to help me. I knew
12:18 Confucious I didn't study but you you can work a miracle. Tomorrow I'll pass. That was me in my Buddhist days. There
12:25 were temples temples all around. But Corin was not just famous as a commercial city with two ports, as a
12:30 religious city with 12 temples, but it was also famous as a sex city.
12:36 It was the sex capital of Asia Minor. And you say perhaps like uh perhaps like
12:41 uh I don't know what's the red light area of K. I I know the red light area of of of
12:47 Singapore is gay. Red light of Sydney where I studied is King's Cross. The red light. This is Corin is like the Bangkok
12:54 of Saudi Asia. It's like the Las Vegas of America. It's like the Amsterdam of
12:59 uh it's the Amsterdam of of Europe. You name the city. In fact, every city has a red light area. But if the whole city is
13:05 known as a red light area, Kurin was a city and it was a whole city of red light areas.
13:12 So there I was uh preaching at uh Sri Lanka at a Bible college and long lectures to the day from 9:00 a.m. in
13:18 the morning, 5:00 p.m. in the evening just at a stretch and they put me up in a small uh not hotel and inn. And then I
13:26 discovered there was supposed to be a famous beach nearby. So after one of the
13:31 long lectures, long day, I I I love beaches. I love mountains. I love scenery. They rejuvenate my spirit. So I
13:37 I asked for directions and I walked to the nearby beach and by God's grace I found it. As I got into the beach,
13:42 right, a China man, uh, this Sri Lankan person, a local came up to me say, "You
13:47 tourist?" Must be I look like tourist, right? I don't look Sri Lankan, do I? Right. You
13:54 tourist. Sir, what do you want? Um, you what do you want? Um, you want boy, you
13:60 want girl, you want uh uh uh anything you want, sir. We have sex of any kind.
14:06 I said, "I don't want anything. I just want to walk. Sir, what do you want?
14:13 You want boy, you want girl, you want one, you want two?
14:19 The world that we live in is a sexmat world. And every city you go to, you find the
14:25 fallenness of human nature there. The thing is, it's so much part of our
14:31 fallenness, we no longer think twice about it. And this sex mad sex saturated way of
14:38 living, this Corinthian way of living, right? We live in cities and live in countries drowning under sex is sex on
14:44 our billboards, sex in our music, sex in our lyrics, sex in our movies. And we
14:50 don't think twice about it. And the number one slogan in among them was
14:56 freedom. So we are free, we are open, we are liberated in our thinking, in our
15:02 living, in our thinking and our living about persons, about humanity, about personalities, about sexuality.
15:08 How do we as God's holy people live distinctive lives from a god-forgetting,
15:16 godforsaking sex mad uh society that we live in now?
15:21 Question to ask. Will the world influence the church or the church influence the world? Especially in this
15:27 area of sexual purity. Let me ask that question slow motion again. Will the
15:33 world influence the church infiltrate the church or the church influence and infiltrate the world in terms of sexual
15:41 ethics and purity? Answer. In all honesty,
15:46 the world influences Christians. The world has its grip on you and you
15:52 and I still remain spiritually stunted. We haven't allowed for the permanent
15:58 effects of the living God and the saving Christ and the Holy Spirit to overcome
16:03 our minds and our hearts to be born again to no longer last and live like a
16:10 fallen world with our former natures. And we don't think twice that we are too
16:16 timing especially in this area of life. So notice Paul's logic. Verse 12,
16:24 everything is permissible for me but not everything is beneficial. He repeats everything is permissible for me but I
16:30 will not be mastered by anything. So countries and cities all have slogans
16:37 and the slogans captures us. So Malaysia Malaysia what's our slogan? Malaysia Ble, right? That's wonderful. Malaysia
16:45 Ble and I was cheering for uh Li Chongi at the Olympics, right? So
16:53 close, right? Yet so far to win that gold medal, right? So you you watch or
16:59 not? You look stunning.
17:05 Malaysia bowling. So maybe four years from now. Do not know. Do not. So every city and um uh so I went to Brisbane.
17:13 Brisbane uh where my sister lives, beautiful one day, perfect the next right slogan, Singapore a city of
17:20 excellence, a fine city because you jaywalk you fine. You you you you spit
17:26 fine everything fine fine fine fine fine. So it's a fine city, right?
17:36 If you walk around the streets of Corinth, if they had banners, if they had LED screens, etc., they will be very
17:44 on about. So, we are very on about Malaysia. Ble Singapore, we're very on
17:49 about being fine, a fine city, right? Brisbane per uh uh was that beautiful
17:55 one day, perfect the next. In Korean, the slogan is they'll be very on about freedom,
18:02 very on about their rights, very on about their liberty. In fact, I think the actual word he uses here is
18:08 authority, which means I have the authority to do this, I have the authority to do that. I'm the authority
18:15 to live this way. I have the authority to live that way. I have the authority to use my body this way. I have the authority and it's used about 26 times
18:21 between chapter 6 and 11 specifically. I have the authority to use my body any
18:27 way I want. If you just didn't notice this morning, my body belongs to me. You
18:33 have no business telling me how to use my body. Is that right? You try afterwards. You try telling me how to
18:40 use my body. I will tell you to go and fly kite and maybe go trangano fly kite because
18:47 that's the world we live in. It's freedom. A Corinthian slogan. But Paul says not all things are beneficial.
18:56 I am not I will not be mastered or ruled by anything. So the wrong question to
19:01 ask if you're a child of God is can I drink? Can I smoke? Can I watch this or
19:08 watch that? The thing is you can start. Can you stop?
19:14 And for some things you shouldn't even start. And you shouldn't even be asking that question, right? And so very
19:22 important that we get this right. And notice he corrects the thinking and then he corrects the living. The two things
19:28 always go together. That's why theology right the the doctrine will control the doing. And the wrong teaching and the
19:36 wrong living went along this lines. Food and stomach the nature destruction.
19:41 Okay. And then another slogan. It doesn't matter what you do with our bodies. And perhaps in the background to
19:48 all this was Greek philosophy. And the background to all this is
19:53 perhaps lurking in the background was Plato and Platonic philosophy. And Plato
19:58 and Platonic Platonic philosophy is that they divided a person into two parts.
20:05 The body and the soul. And the body and soul are as indistinguishable are as
20:11 distinguishable. And they should never mix them mutually exclusive like water and all. And you're thinking the body is
20:18 mortal. Whatever you do in your body doesn't affect your soul. Your body goes
20:24 to the grave. The soul in an inexplicable mysterious way fleets and joins up with the spirits and the Greek
20:31 gods and the Roman gods that are out there. If that is true, my friends, then
20:36 they are on a fatal highway. A fatal highway to damnation.
20:42 Because they were thinking whatever sins I commit in my body beginning with sexual sins doesn't affect my soul
20:49 because my soul like water and all is never touched by what I do in my body.
20:54 And my soul will still fleet and join up with the spirits and the gods in heaven.
21:00 And Paul says you carry on thinking that way. You carry on living that way and
21:06 the perpetuation and continuation of sin will exclude you from the kingdom of God.
21:13 That is what some of you were in your body, in your soul, in your whole personalities,
21:19 but you have been washed. There is a past tense to your life. There's a present tense to your life. There's a
21:24 future tense to your life. The continuation and perpetuation of your past tense into your present tense is a
21:31 ember light and a warning sign that you are headed in the wrong direction.
21:37 If you're a churchgoer and you're faking it, you're a churchgoer and you're faking spirituality, now is the time to
21:45 wake up. This cam is the cam to repent. And so you said, "Are you wrong cam to
21:52 come to?" So it's perhaps a platonic dualism.
21:57 Different natures, different destiny. The soul has this nature and this destiny. The body has another nature and
22:04 another destiny. And Paul says, you keep thinking like that. You think it's apple and oranges. You think the the the body
22:10 is headed downwards. The soul is headed upwards. Automatically according to your culture, according to your philosophy,
22:17 according to your worldview, you got the thing again. In this area of your life, you have not
22:23 you have not shown the permanent marks of God and of Jesus and of the good news
22:29 that has come to you. Next slide. He now gives you four reasons. Four
22:36 reasons how you should now think of your body and use your body. The first reason
22:43 is what we call the the redemption reason. You were bought at a price.
22:50 Christ died for the body. How do you know the value of something?
22:57 You know the value of something by how much people are willing to pay for it. Is that right? So how much is a car in
23:03 Malaysia? And then you very cleverly say depending on what brand. So let's go for the cheapest car in Malaysia, the most
23:09 affordable car. How much? Average 50,000. Okay. High-end cars 500,000. A
23:16 million ringit. Okay. So what's the that's the price of the car but what's the value of the car? So what's the
23:23 average price of a house in Malaysia? Terrace house example
23:30 700 thou,000. What's the value of that house? Do you get it? Okay. So you know
23:35 the value of something by how much human beings are willing to pay for it. Right
23:40 or wrong? Right. I think uh David Beckham, he missed a penalty in Euro
23:47 2004 and they bit for the ball and it's a loser ball, right? And they bit I do not
23:55 know $100,000 $200,000 for it. How many of you love Elvis Presley?
24:02 Elvis Presley. You did not put up hands. most of us the old generation when he burst on the scene in the 1960s they
24:08 call him Elvis the pelvis and uh Southern Baptist Christians and
24:13 churches banned him because what he does from his waist downward is uh not good
24:19 and so they were so fixated about you know separatist theology etc etc etc and
24:25 so you know if you have if you have a if you have an idol an icon Elvis Presley
24:31 whoever it is Michael Jackson They bid for his undergarments and they paid thousands of dollars for
24:37 his underwear. Lesson is you can have my underwear for free actually
24:45 but I don't think any of you want it. Lesson is you won't know the value of
24:50 something by what we are willing to pay for it. Cuz sometimes our value system is junked up.
24:58 Don't you think you know the true value of something when you know how much God is willing to
25:04 pay for it? God paid the price of his son for you. If you ever forget that
25:11 Corinthians, you ever get forget that Malaysians, you ever get that first Baptist people, you are doomed.
25:18 That's the first reason Christ died for you. Here is the redemption reason why you have no right
25:25 to use your body any way you want. Very important. Second reason, he moves on.
25:31 Christ rose for the body. Verse 14. Here is the resurrection reason. So as you
25:38 take this down, as you take a photo of it, right? Let me ask you as this resonates for you. Christ not just died
25:44 for the body, he rose for the body. And we will all who have faith in him rise with him when he returns. Amen. Simple
25:51 Christianity. Gospel 101. That makes us totally unique and distinct. Every other human being dies
25:59 and that's it. It's food for the maggots. We die is food for the maggots
26:05 temporarily. But in the end when Jesus returns in all his glory, we rise to eternal life. So let me ask you, what
26:12 will go on and on and on? And if you're thinking will go on and on and isn't
26:19 that the Selenion song in Titanic on and on and on. You know when the Leonardo
26:25 stood there right and with Kate Winslett and all the women
26:31 oh Leonardo Leonardo Leonardo and you could go on and on and on and on with
26:38 that right. So what do you think will go on and on human creation the pyramids or
26:44 the last thing they say um that astronauts look at when they fly out into space is the great wall of China. I
26:52 want to say to you what will go on and on from earth to eternity is neither
26:57 Selindon and Titanic neither the pyramids of Egypt neither the great wall of China but this resurrection body.
27:03 Amen. There only two things that will go on and on. That is God, father, son, and
27:08 holy spirit. Because God is alpha and omega. And who he chooses to redeem in
27:13 and through Christ, which is us, the church. We go on and on. So how dare you trash
27:21 this body that Christ has redeemed and Christ will resurrect?
27:27 Follow the logic. And then he gets the third reason. The third reason is God made this body. And
27:36 how do you know this? Verse uh 16. Do you not know that he who unites himself
27:43 with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it said, the two will become one flesh.
27:49 Does that sound familiar? The two will become one flesh. The two will become one flesh. The two comes from where?
27:55 Look at the Bibles carefully. It's from Genesis. When God first made Adam and
27:60 Eve, men and women, and he brought them together, for this reason, a man shall leave his father, his mother, be united
28:05 to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So, in talking about redemption, in talking about redemption, Paul arches
28:13 back and draws his spiritual audit trail all the way back to creation, which
28:19 means what? What on earth does this have anything to do with God? Paul is saying
28:25 that this body which was redeemed by Christ's death in the past right Christ's death actually God you know he
28:34 created us men and women then Genesis 3 we fell remember we saw that last night
28:40 we sin against God but God never gave up on the body and God has been promising
28:48 to Abraham promising to Israel that one day he will do something about proud out
28:54 autonomous independent rebellious beings like you and me and he will save us. He
28:60 will save our bodies. That has come true. God never gave up on the body. He wants
29:07 this badly. And so there's a connection between creation and redemption in
29:13 Paul's thinking, I think, at this moment. And so God made the body. He never gave up on the body. And finally
29:19 in fulfillment of all his promises he made to in the gospel to Abraham and Israel he has come to redeem the body
29:26 and one day he will glorify this body. So in between the first coming of Jesus
29:32 and second coming of Jesus what on earth do you do with this body? He gives you the fourth reason. The fourth reason is
29:38 this verse 19. Do you not know that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
29:43 who is in you? And so we call this the sanctification reason.
29:50 Here are four reasons why you and I have no right
29:56 to treat your bodies any way you want. And I use a stronger word. Here are four
30:03 biblical reasons, four godly reasons why you and I have no um no excuse to trash
30:11 our bodies. So as you take note of this, let me ask myself and ask of you.
30:20 What have your eyes been looking at?
30:26 Why have your eyes been looking at on your phone? You don't tell me, you tell God.
30:32 Have your eyes been looking at things you shouldn't look at? Have your hearts been lusting after
30:38 people and things you shouldn't last after long after? Have your feet taken
30:43 you to places that you should never go? Have you started a relationship you never should have started, let alone
30:49 continue, let alone enjoy and find pleasure in? You have no right to treat and trash
30:56 your body any way you want. You have no right to say to your creator, your
31:02 redeemer, and your coming judge, I will use my eyes any way I want. I will use
31:07 my lips any way I want. Whatever I want to say, I say. What? No. Whatever I think, I think. Whatever I see, I see.
31:13 Whatever I want to say, I say. Whatever I want to do, I do. What do you call that? That's a very Corinthian self-made
31:18 man or woman. You're wise in your own eyes. You're strong in your own strength. You think you're autonomous.
31:25 You think you're free. You think that you have authority to live your own life your own way. Wrong. Wrong.
31:32 And Paul's reasoning is such this is what some of you were. And what
31:37 were some of you? Sexually immoral, idolattors, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexual offenders,
31:43 thieves, greedy, drunkards, slanders, swindlers will not inherit the kingdom
31:48 of God. A list of vices, a list of sins, and Paul is very good at list of sins.
31:55 He's got one here. He's got one in Romans. He's got one in Colossians. He's got one in Ephesians. He's always
32:01 listing the vices. Then he gives you the list of virtues available in and through
32:06 Christ our savior and our lord. And so you can follow this. It's all
32:13 about the body. The next thing next. It's all about the body. In chapter 6,
32:19 Paul speaks about the body and purity. In chapter 10 11 is the body and the Lord's supper that we'll deal with it
32:25 tonight. Then chapter 12, the body and the gifts. The body and the resurrection because they were so messed up by their
32:32 Corinthian ideas of body.
32:38 So basically Paul is saying in his his teaching here originally here's the creation thing. God made the body at
32:45 creation. The son saved this body. The Holy Spirit now lives in this body. If
32:52 so, the the triune god, the trinitarian god, the whole of the godhead was
32:58 mobilized for this friends. If they mobilize the Malaysian army, you know
33:04 it's it's serious. If they mobilize the Malaysian army and air force, it's serious. If they mobilize the Malaysian
33:10 army and air force and navy, you know, we are at war. Amen.
33:16 The whole godhead has been mobilized for the body. The father made the body. The
33:22 son saved the body. The spirit has consented to live in this body. Now in between the first coming of Jesus,
33:28 second coming of Jesus, and you still do not know Corinthians, that your bodies are precious.
33:35 The whole of God got involved in your life. The whole of God got involved in your
33:41 life. You ever ask anybody for help? If you ask people for help, say, "I'll
33:46 help you. I'll give you $10,000." that is the person just gave you $10,000. He didn't have to get involved in your
33:51 life. You can ask for help, but the person doesn't get involved. We need help.
33:57 And the whole of God came to our aid. In Jesus's teaching, it's not the healthy
34:04 who need a doctor, it's the sick. So, do you agree with Jesus or not?
34:10 It's a question to ask yourself. Do you consider yourself sick?
34:15 In Luke 19:10, the son of man has come to seek and save the lost. Which means,
34:21 do you consel consider yourself spiritually lost? If you don't consider yourself spiritually sick and
34:27 spiritually lost, you have just offended Jesus because he told you you are sick. And
34:35 that's why the Pharisees and the priests and the high priest killed him. How dare you tell us we are sick?
34:42 we are the religious leaders of Israel. And they thought he was sick in the
34:49 mind. And they nailed him shamelessly to a cross to the cross. And so friends,
34:56 the whole of Godhead, the trinitarian God has gotten involved in redeeming
35:02 you. And you still think you can use your eyes your own way. You can use your
35:07 mind any way you want. Garbage in, garbage out. You can speak anything you
35:12 want. You can do anything you want with no sense of accountability to God now and forever.
35:19 The continuation and perpetuation of proud, arrogant, autonomous living
35:26 will actually confirm you are not a child of God and you're not headed towards the kingdom of God.
35:33 That's Paul's teaching. And it's not simply about the body. It's all about oneness. Next slide.
35:41 So sex is not an exchange of fluids between bodies. So nothing what's sex in I mean what's sex in the modern day
35:47 world among the westerners. Sex is something we do in the closed doors is between two consenting uh adults and
35:54 whatever two consenting adults want to do is it's nothing. Sex is change our faithfulness
36:01 of faithful love. And in our modern day world between a god-given man and a god-given woman in the beautiful
36:08 sanctified institution of marriage. Amen. But in the Corins that we live in, sex
36:14 is nothing. It's anything you wanted to make. And uh it's uh the atheistic
36:20 humanistic which means godless secular way of thinking. As long as two there are two consenting adults. I didn't
36:26 force you. You didn't force me. What business do you have to tell me? It's wrong.
36:32 And so we carry on. It's not simply about the body is about oneness. Next
36:37 slide. In 616 is one body. In 617 is one flesh. In 617b it is one spirit.
36:46 And Paul is reasoning look here that the body is the person. The person
36:54 is the body. This is a major corrective. If they are if there's luring within
36:60 them of the dualism, the dangerous duality, the dangerous dichotomy between
37:05 whatever you do in a body never affects your eternal soul and the eternal destiny of your soul. And Paul says
37:11 wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong thinking, wrong living, wrong thinking, wrong living.
37:16 If you join your body, look here. If I take this body and go to a red light
37:22 area or call her to a hotel in in in Kal or Shanghai or Beijing where I do business and call her to my room, I
37:30 mustn't ever think if I join my body with a prostitute, I've joined my whole person called Krisha with the
37:36 prostitute. I do not walk away from the encounter say that was just a exchange of fluids.
37:45 Your whole person got involved, not just your genitals got involved.
37:52 We are adults here. It's very important we get this right. If we become one flesh in marriage,
37:60 the whole person is involved in a marriage. So how many wives said to me, "My husband, he's always there in the
38:05 body, but he's not there in the spirit." Uh which means yeah he's at home but he's
38:11 on his phone he's reading newspaper and when I talk to him he's like in a different world but when his secretary
38:17 call him hello he's there in the body and the spirit
38:22 with the secretary anybody in that position surely none in FBC uh only my church struggles with
38:29 this problems uh if you become one spirit with Christ the
38:36 whole person is involved in salvation. He's trying to cut down dichotomy
38:42 duality that leads you to eternity without God.
38:47 He's trying to attack. So the most dangerous thing I told you yesterday is to try to confront and change deeply
38:55 entrenched and tightly held on to Corinthian values. You are more Corinthian than you dare to
39:01 think. You are more worldly and carnal that you dare to think and confess. And
39:07 that is why you and I are halfbaked Christians. You don't sense the power of
39:13 the spirit, the joy of the risen Lord in the average life of the average believer
39:19 here in the church on earth. Why not? Because we are living
39:27 we are living fake lives. So he says, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other
39:34 sins a man commits outside his body, but he who sins against his own body um sins sexually sins against his own body." So
39:42 how on earth do we flee? So he says, "Therefore glorify God with
39:50 your body." In the NIV, therefore honor God with your body. I think the root word there is actually the doca word
39:56 doca from which the Greek word from which you get doxology do you sing doxology praise God from whom oh bless
40:05 that's doxology is it right so benediction doxology is giving glory to
40:11 god whatever you do not know or what god has done for you the father has done for you in sending his son and the father
40:17 and son pou the spirit upon you is so that you will no longer please and glorify yourself.
40:25 But now there'll be the paradigm change of salvation. There will be paradigm change of sanctification. And now you
40:31 live to please and to glorify God your father, the Lord Jesus. And you do not
40:36 grieve the spirit of God. Amen. So you need to ask yourself, how on
40:42 earth do we flee? How do men flee? How do women flee?
40:48 In Corinth, they were big on freedom. They were big on their self autonomy and self- authority.
40:54 So I do not know when McDonald's uh launched this but uh I went up to
41:00 McDonald's years and years ago and the person behind the counter said sir you want to upsize.
41:06 I thought the person was being rude now sir you want upsize. What's wrong with my size?
41:11 I didn't know they had come out with this new slogan and this new product and sir you want upsize. But now 10 years
41:17 later 15 years later it's standard. You just go to McDonald's sir you want to upsize that means do you want to be fed
41:23 um you upsize freedom you hold this as the most important thing in your life and
41:29 freedom is the most important thing among westerners now coming to easterners and Asians right how do you
41:35 know this is the most important thing when something is important to you when when a cultural value has become iconic
41:43 when a cultural value has become iconic and an idol in your life you take it away they'll fight
41:50 You take away freedom from Singaporeans, we will say, "Huh? What's that?"
41:57 Cuz he never had it in the first place. You take away the ability to make money
42:03 from Chinese, we'll kill you. You take away freedom from us, political freedom, religious freedom. Take take.
42:11 One day you allow people to take so much of your political freedom, so much of religious freedom, they will take your
42:16 life. you won't have the ability to make money.
42:23 That's what Hitler did to the Jews. Slowly but surely, he chipped away. He chipped away. He chipped away. He
42:29 chipped away. Became fashionable, became acceptable, became fashionable, became acceptable to make fun of Jews. And you
42:34 make fun of enough Jews is fashionable to kill them.
42:40 I'm detourred. Go back. Yeah. One one sec. Yeah, that previous one. previously. You upsize
42:46 freedom, you downsize God. You upsize God, you downsize freedom. If God is not the most important thing in your life,
42:52 other things will be. That's the simple logic. That's the spiritual principle. And if you haven't
42:59 detox and purify your veins and your arteries of harmful and hurtful
43:04 Corinthian values, one day they're going to come and [ __ ] you. That's what Paul is saying. And right now in the
43:11 Corinthian church, you got incest and you don't think twice about it. That's in chapter five. You got incest. You
43:17 don't think twice about it. This is a sin that even outside the world people are don't have it. But you have it
43:22 within church and everybody's zip. No friends, we are God's people. We take
43:29 sexual holiness seriously. We take sexual impurity seriously. Amen. By the grace of God, for the glory of God. By
43:35 the grace of God, for the glory of God. Next thing, how to flee.
43:40 Backwards. Backwards. Backwards.
43:51 Okay. So, how to play? If you got a low view of God, you got the low view of sex. And the Corinthians had a low view
43:58 of God. You know, they got idols, idols around every corner. A temple around
44:03 every corner. They got idols around every corner, but no knowledge of the true and living God. Who does that
44:09 describe? You got a temple around every corner. You got idols around every corner, but you got no true and living
44:15 God. That described my previous life as a tawist Buddhist. I had a temple and an idol everywhere I
44:22 went in Tampen to Ma from Ma to Paneang. So Mon and I were just uh eating at
44:29 Gilang. I I went with my wife to Gilang to eat there.
44:36 As I walked down the streets of Gilang and saw the houses and there was an idol out there, an idol out there, I just
44:42 thank God that he saved me from that former life. Amen.
44:47 Now, from the front of my shop house, there was an idol there. To the back of my shop house, there was an idol there
44:53 on the kitchen god. And then upstairs was the goddess of mercy that my mother prayed to for 4 to six hours a day and
44:59 brought us to the temple and prayed to 35 other idols. You do not know how good it is to be set free from man-made
45:05 idols. Amen. So we've got temples, temples everywhere, idols, elders everywhere,
45:10 made by human imagination, made by human speculation, but no knowledge of the true and living God. What do you call
45:16 that? Pitiful. Paul will say to Athens, the man in
45:22 Athens, I see that you're very wise. You're very religious. You got idols.
45:28 You even have an idol to our named God. The the first kiasus are the Athenians, not Singaporeans. I
45:34 want to qualify that they built an idol to the unknown god.
45:40 And so here we have it application of this. How do men flee? How do women
45:46 flee? And how do men flee? And how do women flee in your outlines in front of you?
45:52 Men, we are turned on by what? All the men. Are we turned on at all? We're not
45:59 turned on. Right. So I'm the only one struggling with this. So men we are turned on by
46:05 sight, visually by sight. That's the way God wired our DNA. So I was preaching in
46:12 a church and this woman came out after the sermon. Uh obviously I touch on that point and she said to me, "Pastor Chris,
46:18 just now what you said, men are turned on by. Is that true?" I said, "As far as I know is true."
46:25 As far as I know is true. You find scripture passages about it. Do not last. Do not etc. Really? I've been
46:31 married. No, I didn't know all this time. Say, what kind of marriage does she have? How many children does she have?
46:38 How did the husband get turned on? I don't know. Men on my side.
46:46 Agree. So, how do we go from living in a sex mad world, drowning in this, and not
46:53 thinking twice of sexual compromise and pursue sexual holiness?
46:60 You really have to ask God for help to have new lenses,
47:05 new eyes. I was preaching in the Philippines. I met a guy. He was into drug addiction. He was into crime, etc.
47:11 He was so addicted. Uh one day while he was trying to uh steal from the piggy bank, piggy bank of his grandmother or
47:19 his auntie. They walked in uh she walked in and then
47:24 caught him in the act in a moment of desperation because he was so deep into drug. He turned around and stabbed her
47:30 to death. He entered in prison. And while in prison, he heard the gospel. He
47:35 gave his life to Christ. He came out, right? He came out and he said he want
47:40 to serve God. And he was serious about all addictions. No more drug addiction. He was also messed up sexually. And he
47:47 was so serious. So as he got a job before he headed to Bible college, uh as he worked in this company, right? He
47:53 worked on a computer. He put a sign on the computer. As for me and my mouse, we
47:58 will serve the Lord. That's not bad, right? You know where
48:05 that comes from, Joshua? As for me and my household, I don't know about the rest of Israel, but for me and my
48:12 household, we will serve the Lord. You think you can put somewhere or wear a cap. As for me and my iPhone, we will
48:17 serve the Lord. As for me and my Android, we will serve the Lord.
48:23 If this is causing you to sin, you throw it out. I mean, sorry, I just got it.
48:30 So, what is causing you to sin? You have no more right to look upon things you shouldn't look upon.
48:36 God has given you four reasons why you shouldn't do that. And we got to flee that.
48:41 So, I met a bright young man overseas. How do you know when he's bright? Doing medicine. But he was taking a whole year
48:49 off from doing medicine in university. I said, "Why?" Uh, because I'm addicted to pornography.
48:54 A bright young man should know how to handle his eyes. No, he didn't. He was so addicted. He needed to go to a clinic
49:00 to detox him because he couldn't think straight about himself, couldn't think straight about life, could never think
49:06 straight about women. How is he going to have a normal life? You think you can do
49:11 porn, do sexual sin without any consequences to your life now and any
49:16 consequences to your eternal life with God? No, friends. That's a lie of the devil. It stops now.
49:25 It stops now. Amen. But the enlightenment of God's word and the power of God's spirit, it can stop.
49:32 And I can declare to you by the grace of God, right? I haven't watch porn. And I
49:38 pray never to watch it. And I say that to my staff and I want them to say it
49:43 back to me. All 10 pastors that I do not watch porn because of the grace of God
49:49 in me. You think you could do that as accountability groups as accountable men
49:56 in FBC? Women. Women are not turned on by sight.
50:02 That is the only reason my wife married me. She told me, "Chris, I didn't marry you
50:07 for your body. What's wrong with my body?" I don't know. But I was known as ekan bilis in school. And I'm still ekan
50:14 bilis many years later. We grew up in the same school, right? Um, etc. So, what was I saying? I think I got
50:20 distracted. Uh, women are turned on by romance, by romantic thoughts, by
50:25 romantic words, by romantic deeds. That's why you watch Korean shows all
50:30 the time. That's why Descendants of the Sun got two billion people watching all
50:36 around Southeast Asia and mainland Chinese want to become Koreans, right?
50:42 And when you see that guy, what's his name? Owner. So juni oh juni
50:51 oh juni you move from leonardo to juni lonado to juni right and so if men have
50:58 a weakness with eyes women have a weakness with hearts with romance always looking for the next Leonardo right you
51:05 know the highlight the climax of that mo of Titanic that three-hour movie I brought my mother to uh no my sister
51:12 brought my mother to watch a movie so my mother used to live with me then my sister took her out for a weekend. Then
51:18 my mother came back. I said, "What did you do?" I said, "Uh, went to eat, then went to watch a movie." I said, "What
51:23 movie?" She said, "Don't know." But a water, water everywhere. Water, water, water. Oh. They said Titanic
51:30 in Tu. I don't know what Titanic was. I said, "I know what it mean." Right. So, the highlight of that movie was the love
51:36 scene in the car steaming up, swaying and rocking. Right. And in the
51:44 background, wonderful Selen Dion on and on and on.
51:54 In real life, right, you park your car at a dating spot.
52:01 It goes through that. You discover you're pregnant as a woman. I can almost
52:06 guarantee you the guy will not be there with you at the clinic.
52:12 You will not have any music playing in the background and you go on and on by yourself
52:20 and a romance. I was preaching overseas once and this lady came up to me. The message has
52:27 struck her. She was infatuated if not in love with with her boss. Nothing wrong with that
52:34 except the boss is married. Nothing wrong with that except the boss was a Christian boss, a very nice godly man
52:40 and she was infatuated and in love with him. Immediately at the conference, she came up to me asked for prayer and
52:48 she said, "I know what I have to do." I said, "What do you think you have to do? I have to quit my job. It's a good job. It's a good paying job. It's a high
52:54 paying job." And I then asked, "When do you think you should quit?" And she said to me, "Tomorrow."
53:01 Flee doesn't mean think about it, fondle it, cuddle it.
53:09 It means drop it. Drop it and run from Egypt and run
53:16 towards Jerusalem. Run to the promised land. The Passover meal is eaten very quickly. It's
53:23 unleavened bread because it's dropping your life of sin and going to a new
53:29 life. for us. We are now in the second exodus to Christ our Lord. Amen.
