00:07 Speak Lord, your servant is listening. Where shall we go? You have the words of
00:15 everlasting life. Holy Spirit, illuminate the word. Show us the glories
00:23 of God in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Good morning.
00:30 My name is Joash. I'm the youth and campus pastor here. I've been here almost three years. Come February, it
00:37 will be three years I've been here serving you. Uh what a privilege. Thank
00:42 you for having me. Uh looking forward to many more years. Yeah.
00:49 uh today today this sermon is very hard
00:54 because it it uh I hope today when I speak right you don't feel like I'm
01:01 hitting you but uh that I myself if if my language
01:07 don't sound like I'm preaching to myself please forgive me but I am we all come
01:12 under the word of God and we all bow at the feet of Jesus and we ask for help
01:17 and we ask for mercy Okay. Okay. So, I just give you disclaimer already. It's
01:24 not easy. This one. Yeah.
01:33 Open your Bibles uh to James 5 7-10. We're going to stay there uh throughout
01:40 the whole time. If there's any other scripture, I'll uh show it on the screen. But we're going to stay here for
01:47 most of our time.
01:53 The outline. Let me give you the outline first before we read. Okay. The mandate,
01:58 the motivation, and the model. What is the command?
02:04 Why should I obey this command? And how does this command look like in real
02:09 life? Okay. So as we read, see whether you can find the outline in James 5. Be
02:16 patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer
02:21 waits for the precious fruit of the earth. Being patient about it until he
02:26 receives the early and the late rains. You also be patient. Establish your
02:32 hearts for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not grumble against one
02:37 another, brothers, so that you may not be judged. Behold, the judge is standing
02:43 at the door as an example of suffering and patience. Brothers, take the
02:48 prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. This is God's word.
02:56 Patience is a virtue that carries a lot of weight. W AI T a lot of weight.
03:08 Uh people that go to see the doctor, they are called patients because they have to wait.
03:15 Who likes to be told to wait? Nobody. What is your favorite part of waiting?
03:22 Nothing. Maybe the ending of waiting. That's my favorite part.
03:28 When as parents when you ask your kids to do something, what's the most annoying answer to hear?
03:35 Wait. When we are excited about something, we say we can't wait, but we have to.
03:44 Patience is one of those things that we demand from others, but we ourselves
03:50 don't have. Right? When someone tries to cut our lane, we
03:55 say wait your turn. When someone scolds us for being late, we say you cannot
04:01 wait a bit. When people ask for something impossible
04:07 or really difficult, we say you slowly wait.
04:14 So the mandate to be patient, it brings about a conflict in our hearts. We know
04:20 that it's good but we just don't have it in us. Furthermore, James writes to
04:26 people who are going through suffering. They were oppressed. They were troubled.
04:33 Uh James 1:2 says that they are going through trials of various kind. 1:9 they
04:39 are called believers in humble circumstances. It's one thing to be patient when you're
04:45 waiting in line for something, for boa or for whatever. It's one thing to be patient when you're waiting in line.
04:52 It's a whole different thing when you're called to be patient in suffering.
04:58 Maybe a a harm has been done to you. There has been foul play and you're waiting for justice. Or when you're
05:05 sick, you're waiting for full recovery or even just some relief. If there is a
05:11 broken relationship and you're waiting for restoration,
05:16 when you're worried about something and there's just no answer coming,
05:22 it's just dark days for you. You're waiting for your circumstances to change
05:28 for God to intervene somehow. Waiting is painful. Waiting in suffering is
05:35 painful. James, he's not unfamiliar with suffering. As a
05:42 head of the persecuted church in Jerusalem, he had to take care of people who lived
05:49 in poverty and constant danger. The church was suffering. They were waiting for relief. Whether is food relief or
05:56 rescue, they were waiting. They had to wait in pain.
06:03 So why does James call suffering people to be patient? I mean, it's already
06:09 tough enough that I'm suffering. Why are you asking me to be patient? I mean, we
06:15 know that it's good. We know that it's good, but it's really hard, especially
06:21 when we're suffering. If you want me to wait, it better be worth it.
06:27 If you want me to wait, it better be worth the wait. So, what is James
06:34 motivation for those who suffer patiently? What is this? What is at the
06:39 end of this waiting? The coming of the Lord. Verse seven, be
06:45 patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Just now we read
06:52 Isaiah 35 speaking of the overturn of events of outcome when the Lord comes
06:59 again. Verse 6 says, "Then will leap the lame deer." The lame leap like a deer
07:06 and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush out from the wilderness and
07:11 streams in the desert for those who are redeemed by the blood of the lamb. Verse
07:18 10 says, "Gladness and joy will overtake them. Sorrow and sighing will flee
07:24 away." When was the last time you sighed?
07:31 Sorrow and sighing. Sighing will flee away. Why? Because of verse four. Your
07:37 God will come. He will come with vengeance, with divine retribution. He
07:42 will come to save you. Revelation 21
07:47 echoes the same sentiment when God comes to us. And I heard a loud voice from the throne
07:54 saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with men. He will dwell with
07:59 them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
08:05 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more.
08:11 Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former
08:16 things have passed away. God will dwell with his people. God's presence with us
08:25 spells the end of all sorrow, all pain, and all death. Why? Because Psalm 16:11,
08:33 right? In your presence is fullness of joy at your right hands are pleasures
08:39 forever more. It's true that if you believe in Jesus, you put your faith in
08:46 Jesus, he is with you now. He has never left you. He has never forsaken you.
08:54 But he will come again and it will be even more glorious.
09:02 Our trials, our circumstances, they will end.
09:07 Your sorrows will be turned into joy. Christ is coming. He is worth the wait.
09:15 There is literally nothing better
09:20 than Christ coming. We are called to wait for him.
09:26 Be patient. James say be patient like a farmer.
09:32 uh verse second half of verse 7. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit
09:38 of the earth being patient about it until it receives the early and late rains. You also be patient.
09:48 Now Deuteronomy 11, right, gives us a a picture of Israel's agriculture
09:53 situation. uh God says right I will take you out from a land of irrigation where
09:60 they can get water from the Nile River from Egypt to I'll take you to a land
10:06 where they drink water from the sky. So from the rain. Okay. And uh it says
10:15 in Deuteronomy 11:11, "Rather the land where you are going as your possession
10:20 is one of hills and valleys, a land that drinks water from the rains, one the
10:26 Lord your God looks after. He is constantly attentive to it from the
10:32 beginning to the end of the year." So basically right the farmer in Israel is
10:39 completely dependent on rain to water the crops. Without the
10:46 rain the farmer loses everything. But thankfully the person in charge of
10:53 the rain is God himself. And God says I will
10:59 constantly be attentive to it from beginning to the end of the year.
11:06 As surely as you can trust God's faithfulness, you can be sure that there will be rain for the crops. And
11:14 therefore, the farmer in Israel, he waits with hope. There is hope in his
11:20 waiting. The farmer plans and does his work based on the past patterns of
11:27 weather which reminds him of God's promise, the certainty of God's promise.
11:35 And so the the farmer, he's not idle. He's not doing nothing. He's investing.
11:41 He's working in hope of precious fruit. He is not unsure of the coming of the
11:49 rain. He believes that the rain will come. That's why he's still farming.
11:55 He is not hopeless. Likewise, the Christian
12:02 is called to remember God's faithfulness in the past
12:07 and labor in hope to wait in hope in total dependence on God. I know I'm
12:16 totally dependent on God, but I trust him. I can hope in him.
12:24 But what if there is a drought? I mean, farmer of Israel,
12:31 don't do it. Don't be a farmer, man.
12:36 Israel, you depend on rain. Don't be a farmer.
12:42 What if there's a drought? It's not worth the risk. You're you're placing all your eggs on one basket. You're
12:48 banking everything upon something that is uncertain. How sure are you that the rain will come? How do you know for
12:56 sure? As surely as Christ has come and walked
13:02 among us. As surely as Christ was nailed to a Roman cross and died. As surely as
13:09 Christ was raised to life and now praying for us the right hand of God, he
13:15 will come again. Oh Christian, it may seem like a drought now. Be patient. He
13:22 is coming and he is worth the wait.
13:28 So last Sunday, Pastor Leon called us to place our hope in God alone and not in
13:36 anything else. I just want to flesh that out a bit. Uh what does it mean for
13:42 people to be losing hope? For the farmer in Israel, losing hope is
13:50 I'm going to quit farming. I'm not going to be a farmer anymore. or I'm going to
13:55 be a farmer not in Israel. I'm going to go back to Egypt where I can depend on
14:01 the river. At least I don't have to completely depend on God. So, how does
14:08 losing hope in God look like for us?
14:14 How does losing hope in God look like for you? So, some of you maybe you're in this situation.
14:20 You've been hurt. You really don't want to forgive some some bad thing has been done to you
14:28 and you want to take matters into your own hands. You're not trusting God. You're not waiting or hoping on God to
14:35 bring vengeance. Or maybe as simple as your child has
14:40 been rebellious and you're just I give up. I give up on disciplining him.
14:47 Maybe you're single and you cannot find a good Christian boy
14:53 and you're thinking any guy that like me
14:59 and you you're not you're not hoping for God to bring that good Christian boy.
15:04 Maybe your business is not going well and you're tempted to cheat, to bribe, to sabotage.
15:12 Or maybe life is just full of dark clouds and you're just tempted to give
15:17 up on life altogether. Hope in God.
15:25 Hope in God. Be patient. He is coming
15:30 and he is worth the wait. Verse eight says, "You also be patient.
15:37 Establish your hearts for the coming of the Lord is at hand. Establish
15:45 your hearts. We just went through uh one outline, one
15:51 round of the outline. The mandate is to be patient.
15:58 The motivation is the coming of the Lord and the model is like the farmer. Be
16:05 patient like the farmer because the Lord is coming.
16:11 Verse 9 and 10, we see the same rhythm, the same outline. Verse 9, "Do not
16:17 grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged. Behold,
16:23 the judge is standing at the door." As an example of suffering and patience,
16:28 brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. What's the mandate
16:35 here? The mandate here is let's read it together. Do not grumble.
16:46 Just the just hearing someone tell you don't
16:52 grumble make you want to grumble, right? I'm like come on man, I like to grumble.
17:02 I'm Malaysian after all, right? I mean, it's literally the air we
17:08 breathe, right? How do we make friends by complaining about the same thing?
17:14 We love to grumble. I mean, if you want me to wait, you want me to be patient,
17:21 at least let me grumble, right?
17:26 It makes sense, right, for for patience and grumbling to be paired together,
17:31 right? Because patience isn't just about waiting. It's about endurance, right?
17:37 It's about tolerance. If you're waiting in line for boba, uh,
17:42 for bubble tea, if you're waiting in line for Boba, right? But you're grumbling all the way. I mean, you're
17:47 waiting, but are you patient? No,
17:53 you're not. If you're waiting, but you're grumbling, you're not patient.
17:59 But we do it all the time, don't we? In our workplaces, we grumble against
18:05 colleagues. We grumble against our bosses. Not here. Here, nobody complain about the bosses. We grumble against the
18:13 customers. In our homes, we grumble against family
18:18 members. Even in a church, right, there's grumbling against brothers and
18:25 sisters. Right? Nod your head if you've done it before.
18:31 Okay. It's so natural especially when we are suffering
18:38 uh while doing ministry you get so stressed you get so worked up you know
18:44 and you just you just lash out at someone why so slow faster
18:50 and you grumble a y this guy talk too much. Yesterday we had uh youth barbecue
18:57 and there were like 60 over people and so many non-Christians came. It was such an awesome time. Uh on the way back, the
19:05 whole way back I was grumbling in the car. Something good just happened, but I
19:11 was grumbling about many, many, many bad things. Don't tell them they're not here. They're downstairs.
19:19 Maybe you're you bear with an issue for too long and in a moment of weakness you
19:26 just grumble. You just say out you're always like that one. Always like that one.
19:32 Always make up too long. Always.
19:39 When when there is sickness at home, both the cared and the caregiver
19:46 are under tremendous stress, isn't it? When you're caring for someone who is sick, when you are sick and there's a
19:54 lot of grumbling happening, it's hard. It's it's really natural to grumble when
20:02 you're suffering. And in that moment of frustration, we lash out. We grumble and
20:08 we hurt the ones that we love and we appreciate. Verse 9 says, "Do not grumble against
20:14 one another. So that you may not be judged." Now, two questions.
20:24 Why will we be judged if we grumble against one another? And number two,
20:30 what kind of judgment is James referring to? Why will we be judged? And what kind
20:36 of judgment will we get? To answer both questions, we go to remember recently we
20:41 talked about first Corinthians went through and uh in first Corinthians, right? There was a disunityity in the
20:48 church, the rich versus the poor. And Paul was scolding them because the rich
20:54 people, they were not waiting for the poor to eat together the Lord's supper.
21:01 And and the when by the time the poor comes the rich already full already drunk even Paul says right they were
21:10 despising the church of God and humiliating those who have nothing.
21:17 They were basically degrading devaluing the poor. They were devaluing their
21:23 fellow brother and sister in Christ. And so Paul gives a closing word on the ma
21:30 matter. 1 Corinthians 11. For anyone who eats
21:36 and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.
21:43 That is why many of you are weak and ill and some have died.
21:51 But if we judge ourselves truly, we will not be judged. But when we are judged by
21:57 the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the
22:04 world. So because they did not give proper honor to fellow members of Christ, they
22:12 eat and drink judgment upon themselves. So to answer the question, why? Why will we get judged
22:19 when we grumble against one another? because you are essentially dishonoring,
22:26 degrading, devaluing a fellow member of the body of Christ. And for God, that is
22:34 not acceptable. We will be judged when we grumble
22:40 because we are devaluing our fellow brother and sister.
22:45 Question two, what kind of judgment will we face?
22:50 Verse 32 tells us that this judgment is not condemnation along with the
22:56 unbelieving world rather is a discipline from our heavenly father to his
23:03 children. Okay, it's not condemnation along with the world. It is discipline. And for
23:09 some of us, right, we feel very relieved after we hear that, right? Oh, I will be judged, but I won't be judged like
23:15 condemned to hell. I will just be judged like I'll be disciplined. So, yay. I'm
23:20 going to keep grumbling. Well, not so fast. You remember the
23:26 discipline is strong. It's very harsh. Is some are
23:32 weak and ill and some have died.
23:37 And when we come back to James, James also he's not so fast to let us off the hook as well. James 2 verse1 17, right?
23:45 Faith without works is dead. James 2:19, you believe that God is one, you do
23:52 well, even the demons believe and shudder.
23:58 In other words, our behavior, right, must give evidence that we are a true
24:05 believer. And James reminds us, don't grumble
24:11 against one another because second part of verse 9 says, "Behold, the judge is
24:18 standing at the door." The judge is standing at the door. And again, after
24:24 the mandate, James points to the coming of the Lord, but this time the coming of
24:31 the Lord as a judge. Jesus said in Matthew 3, "Bear fruit in
24:38 keeping with repentance. Do not presume to say to yourself, we
24:43 have Abraham as our father. For I tell you, God is able to raise from these stones children for Abraham." Even now
24:50 the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into
24:58 the fire. And so we have to ask ourselves does grumbling give good evidence that
25:04 we are a good tree. Does grumbling show good fruit and
25:11 reveal that we are a good tree or does grumbling show actually that we are
25:16 producing bad fruits and therefore we are a bad tree.
25:22 Let's not make the same mistakes that the Pharisees make, thinking that a form of religion is enough. We need to bear
25:30 fruit in keeping with repentance. Philippians 2:14 and 15, do all things
25:37 without grumbling or disputing that you may be blameless and innocent, children
25:43 of God without blemish. There is only one judge. And James tells
25:50 us that the judge is standing at the door. He's coming. And when we grumble
25:57 against one another, we are essentially taking the judge's place.
26:03 And we are playing judge. James say the judge is coming.
26:11 We better stop playing pretend and take our rightful places. We are not
26:18 the judge. There is only one judge. Romans 14:10. Why do you pass judgment
26:25 on your brother? Why you? Why do you despise your brother? For we will all
26:31 stand before the judgment seat of God. Matthew 12:36. I tell you on the day of
26:37 judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak and James
26:43 tells us right even in our suffering
26:48 don't grumble even in our suffering do not grumble verse 10
26:56 as an example of suffering and patience brothers take the prophets who spoke in
27:03 the name of the Lord so the model Here is the prophets. The prophets were God's
27:09 spokesperson to the nation of Israel. They got three tasks. Number one, to point out people's
27:18 sin. Number two, to plead with people to repent. And number three, if the people
27:25 don't repent, to proclaim God's judgment.
27:30 Who wants to be a prophet? Point out people's sin. plead with them
27:36 to repent and proclaim God's judgment. These people are not very wellliked.
27:44 The prophets, they were recipients of much grumbling.
27:50 These were men, right, who spoke God's truth to a sinful generation and they
27:56 paid a high price for doing so. They were ignored, rejected, they were abused, they were thrown into prison,
28:02 they were mocked, they were killed. Yet they stayed faithful and they did not
28:10 waver. They suffered much but yet they remain
28:16 faithful to what God asked of them. James calls us to those of us who are
28:23 suffering to remain faithful to God's command and not grumble against one
28:30 another. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be
28:35 steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in
28:41 the Lord your labor is not in vain. So the outline again, what's the
28:48 mandate? The mandate is do not grumble. The motivation,
28:53 the judge is at the door. The model, the prophets
29:00 do not grumble. Like the prophets, they remain faithful throughout much hardship
29:07 and suffering. Tada.
29:13 What a wonderful Christmas message.
29:18 So far, right, is bad news all the way. Bad news all the way. You ask me to be
29:25 patient. I don't want to be patient. You ask me not to grumble. Come on. I want to grumble.
29:31 The only good news is the coming of the Lord. But I have to wait how long? I
29:39 don't want to be patient. I don't want to be like a farmer. I don't want to be like the prophets. I don't want to
29:45 suffer like them. I want to grumble.
29:52 Now uh now uh later got later got church meeting members meeting. Uh it's not
29:58 that I want to grumble. I'm just raising a concern. I imagine that's what people will say. Ah now do I grumble.
30:07 H I want to keep grumbling but now I can't
30:12 because a man I know I'm going to keep grumbling but now pastor J make me feel guilty about it. I'll be judged. I'll be
30:20 judged. Brothers and sisters,
30:27 may the weight of the command and the revelation of our helplessness drive us
30:32 towards the good news of Jesus Christ. For those who are impatient,
30:39 for those who are grumblers, turn to the gospel of Jesus Christ. The
30:45 gospel of Jesus Christ tells us that we belong to a God who is merciful and
30:52 gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Yet we
31:02 humans, we have rejected him as our master over and over again.
31:11 And instead of coming down hard on us like a judge, instead of coming to us
31:16 with a vengeance to condemn us, he graciously sends his prophets to call us
31:24 back to repentance. Hebrews 1:8 say in these last days he
31:29 has spoken to us by his son Jesus is the
31:36 prophet who faithfully delivered God's word and ultimately that led him to a
31:44 Roman cross and death. On the cross he did not grumble against
31:51 his enemies. In fact, he prayed for their forgiveness. Father, forgive them
31:57 for they know not what they do. Until his final breath, he remained
32:03 hopeful in God. He never stopped hoping in God. He cried out, "Father, into your
32:10 hands I entrust my spirit."
32:16 His hope in God was vindicated because three days later, God raised Jesus back
32:21 to life. And because of his work on the cross, defeating sin and death through his
32:28 sacrifice, we have the blessed hope that when he comes again, all pain, all
32:35 sorrow, death will be wiped out.
32:42 Why did Jesus go through all of that? Why did Jesus go through all of that?
32:50 more than just to show us an example, more than just to be a model for us to
32:55 imitate, right? I mean, wow, Jesus was didn't grumble, so you also don't grumble.
33:01 No, more than that, Jesus died on the cross to show us the
33:07 patience, the steadfast love, and the faithfulness of God towards us.
33:16 Through Christ, we hear God speaking to us. Not a word of judgment, not a word
33:22 of condemnation, but a word of love. I love you. I am patient with you. I
33:31 have loved you with an everlasting love.
33:36 And if we receive these words of love with faith, we have the Holy Spirit in
33:42 us. The Holy Spirit who empowers us to be like God, to be patient, to not
33:49 grumble against others. Our faithful patience
33:56 displays God's great patience to the world. When we are filled with the
34:02 spirit, empowered by the spirit to be patient with one another, we show the
34:08 world the patience of God. And so may this gospel be the driving
34:16 force of our love and obedience towards him. In our moments of pain and
34:22 suffering, let us remember that we are the recipients of patience. And not just
34:29 any patience, divine patience from God.
34:35 And may our gratitude and our delight in that patience
34:41 empower us by the Holy Spirit to be patient towards
34:46 all. Reflect on the gospel. Whenever you are
34:54 impatient, whenever you are tempted to grumble, remember that we we have
35:01 received divine patience from God. We are the recipients of patience.
35:09 I will close with addressing three groups of people and I invite the music team to come. Three groups of people.
35:16 Number one, if you're here and you have not responded to the gospel of Jesus
35:22 Christ, you hear the patience of God towards you. I have two verses to share
35:28 for you. Number one, the Lord is not slow to fulfill his
35:34 promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone
35:41 to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. One more. Therefore, having overlooked
35:49 times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should
35:55 repent because he has fixed a day in which he will judge the world in
36:01 righteousness through a man whom he has appointed, having furnished proof to all
36:07 men by raising him from the dead. If you are here and you have not
36:13 responded to the gospel, I want you to know God is patient with you because he
36:20 desires you to repent and return to him. He has given sufficient proof by the
36:27 resurrection of Jesus Christ that this is the king you follow. This is the God
36:33 that you must bow to and he is a judge. He has fixed a day of judgment. If you
36:42 believe Jesus is the son of God, you believe he lived the life you should have lived and died the death you should
36:48 have died. You put your faith in him today.
36:55 Today. He died so that you may receive forgiveness.
37:01 Do not wait any longer. fall at the feet of the cross and receive the divine word
37:07 of love by making Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior.
37:13 Two more groups. If you've been a grumbler,
37:21 that should be all of us, right? We're grumblers.
37:27 Oh, sorry. I don't know. I use my left hand.
37:34 Please be patient with me. If you've been grumbling,
37:41 bear with one another. And if anyone has a complaint against another, forgiving
37:48 each other. As the Lord has forgiven you, so you also
37:53 must forgive. I give you three steps. Three, uh, each
37:59 step gets harder. Number one, forgive that person as the Lord has forgiven
38:05 you. Number two, if you feel more convicted,
38:12 confess to your grumbling partner. We all have that partner that we grumble to, right?
38:20 Confess to that grumbling partner and say, "I want to stop grumbling. Can you
38:25 help me? And number three, this one the hardest,
38:33 huh? If you ever grumble at someone, would you go and confess to them and ask
38:39 them for forgiveness? Because when you grumble against someone, you are demeaning them. You're
38:45 devaluing them. You're treating them as lesser than you. Would you go to the person that you
38:52 grumble at? Would you ask for forgiveness?
38:58 The third group is for those who are losing hope in God. You cannot wait
39:05 anymore. You cannot be patient like the farmer. You're losing hope in God.
39:14 Would you let someone know? Would you Could you tell someone about
39:20 it? Just open your mouth and say, "I'm losing hope in God. I I'm starting to do
39:26 things the way the world is doing it. God asked us to do it certain way, but I'm giving it up because I'm losing hope
39:34 in God." Would you tell someone, "Do not walk that journey alone."
39:44 As as we sing later, we're going to sing, right? As you sing, pray that the
39:49 Holy Spirit will reveal to you the glories of God. He is the only solid
39:55 rock on which we can stand. He is worth the wait. There is literally nothing
40:02 better. Therefore, establish your hearts. The
40:07 coming of the Lord is at hand. Dark and cheerless is the mourn until
40:13 your love in me is born. The joyless is the evening song until Emmanuel
40:20 has come. On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand.
40:26 Church, let us stand and let us sing.
