Making Sense of the Old Testament

Reading a book of the Bible to understand what it is talking about involves the most basic level of interpretation. Reading it to understand what it is saying to us so that we can put it into practice involves a deeper level of interpretation. To make sense of the Old Testament we need to interpret it at both levels. Depending on the genre, an Old Testament book may actually be easier to interpret at the “deeper” than at the “basic” level. This course overviews the missional framework of the Bible and then shows how the individual books of the Old Testament fit in this framework. This is to provide a handle to make sense of each of the books. Special attention is given to making sense of the laws in the Old Testament in light of the confusion today over their relevance to the Church.
