Long before Mother’s Day, zooms in on the second Sunday of May each year, the Sunday School (SS) Ministry teachers will start to put on their thinking caps on what activities and crafts to plan in conjunction with this day.

Plans for Mother’s Day got “locked up” literally this year when the Movement Control Order (MCO) which started from March 18 put all in a bind. But if there is a will, there is a way to get around it.

Instead of getting the children to do the usual Mother’s Day crafts set by the teachers as in past years, the SS came out with a Mother’s Day Competition for the different age groups – Preschool / Std 1 to 3 / Std 4 to 6 for both the Gospel Kids (1st Service) and Kingdom Kids (2nd Service) classes.

That way, it’s the children who decide how and what they want to do for their Mother’s Day tributes. They could submit entries in the form of videos, voice recordings, drawings, written messages and poems.

And what a great idea the competition turned out to be! The SS received a whopping 83 entries! From the entries, it was obvious that the children had put in a lot of effort and creativity into their “masterpieces”.

Heartwarming videos depict the children’s journey in life with their mothers and the special moments spent together. Artistic little hands conjure up special boxes and cards that contain layers and layers of tribute messages.

In a way, the MCO has taken the SS teachers-parents partnership to a more meaningful and deeper level this Mother’s Day (May 10). With the parents’ help and guidance each week, the children are able to continue their SS lessons online with the teachers. Best of all – mothers received the most creative Mother’s Day tributes designed by their own children!
