During the MCO period, I’ve had to return to the church to collect some items for work. The experience was so weird to me, as I’m not used to the silence. Working in church for the past 3 years, there has always been sounds & noises, even during the weekdays.

At the very least, there’s children from Rainbow and also our Covenant Christian Center. But then there’s table tennis fellowship, Karis on Wednesdays, BSF on Thursday. Of course not forgetting Alpha, Beta, Beta Plus, Gamma, Life Groups, and music practices that happens at night. I find myself in search of those sounds as walk through the empty parking lot.

And suddenly a surge of gratitude rushed into my heart. I’m so glad that FBC is a church that fully utilizes the spaces & places provided to advance the gospel. Running the youth ministry for the past 3 years, I have encountered numerous occasions where there’s a double-booking or a “fighting-for-rooms”. But those inconveniences proves that there’s plenty of gospel effort happening. The word is getting out!!

What follows was a powerful reminder: it’s PEOPLE that are getting the word out. It’s people that are advancing the gospel and utilizing the spaces for God’s glory. These programs at those facilities are all initiated by the people of FBC, and these gospel activities won’t happen without them. Even now, the church is still carrying out its mission – because of the work of the people. We may have temporarily lost our space to gather, but the word is still getting out.

I guess what I learned is that we have to be more appreciative of one another. We have to learn to validate and celebrate each other’s contribution to the gospel mission. A little less comments and suggestions and ‘constructive criticism’, and a little love and encouragement and kindness.

So THANK YOU, PEOPLE OF FBC. If you’re using your personal computer to help edit the church videos, thank you. If you’re recording yourself on your phone to share a mid-week devotion with us, thank you. If you’ve helped someone with Zoom or whatever other tech, thank you. If you’re taking time to call someone in need or driving out to purchase & deliver groceries for the poor, thank you. For those who are learning new skills in order to carry on gospel work, thank you. If you’re cooking meals and taking care of your loved one at home, thank you.

God has a global mission to reach the world with the good news of Jesus Christ, and He chooses to call human beings as His partners. Thank you for answering the call in whatever capacity you’re in. May God bless you richly and grand you favour to display His glory.
